New Babies

A new baby in the family is an amazing gift for a few reasons, one because of the joy a new baby brings, and two because it means I get to make a whole lot of stuff for him or her!

My Brother and Sister in Law just had a baby boy and I had a lot of fun making a whole heap of stuff for them. They didn’t find out the sex until after the baby was born so some of the things I sent were not appropriate at all.

This Made By Rae Itty Bitty Dress being a prime example of that.

I made this out of a woman’s shirt I found in the free box at the op shop, as soon as I saw it I thought it had an Itty Bitty Dress written all over it.

More appropriately I also sent some Basic Newborn Pants and a matching bib.

I’ll share some more another day.

Hello!

Welcome to anyone coming over from The Vintage Sheet Blog (and everyone else). Thanks for looking and please come back again! I have a Vintage sheet addiction and I can’t walk past one without buying it so I’m sure you will see some more vintage sheet projects. Here is an earlier post of some PJ shorts made from a vintage sheet.

See a vintage sheet, pick it up, pay no more than $3 and all day long you’ll have good luck!

My first Quilt

I talked earlier about a quilt I was making from Vintage Sheets. This was made from 11 different vintage sheets and pillowcases.

On each row there is also a square that has been enhanced with a small amount of embroidery. The back is a Vintage Flannelette sheet which is so cozy!

Thanks for looking! I’m working on number two now.

Amy Butler Style Stitches

I got Amy Butler’s Style Stitches for Christmas and have looked through it many times admiring all the beautiful bags. Today I decided to make one! I went out and got special interfacing as every bag in there has it I think. Then I spent hours cutting out all the pieces and writing on each piece the instructions. And geez you have to be half smart to just get that far.

THEN I went downstairs to my sewing room and brought up all my beautiful fabrics, each one bought on separate occasions, ususally because it was on sale I admit. I asked my designer husband which ones I could match togeather to make this bag.

Turns out none of them. How have I managed to amass a huge amont of fabric and have none that compliment each other? I might need to rethink my fabric buying approach.

So anyway my beautiful Amy Butler bag still aludes me but at least I get to go shopping right?

Pinterest

Pinterest seems to be all the rage at the moment and I recently joined to keep track of my bookmarks.

I thought I might to show you what I have on my to do list.

I’m working on my very own Vintage Sheet Quilt at the moment and can’t wait to share it but until then here is some of my inspirations.

I love vintage sheets, but when I started cutting out the the pieces for my quilt the colours just were not looking right. I’m going for a random pattern and the sheets I had were all too patterned and too much yellow/orange. So I popped out to the op shop and hit a payload, I got four different sheets, all the blue/purple colours that are hard to find. I even left two sheets in the shop as they wanted five bucks for each and I thought that was too much.

With the added colours it is looking much better, and I have the order down, I just need to start sewing!!

Looking forward to showing you some work in progress photos!

If anyone wants an invite to Pinterest let me know!!!

Sqeeeeeeeeee

For mother’s day this year I got a subscription to Ottobre Design magazine and my free gift issue arrived today. I chose a winter issue as we are coming into winter here in NZ. This magazine looks like everything I thought it would be. Gorgeous photos, cute clothes, cute kids. The patterns will definitely be a learning experience for me which is good, I need to keep learning with my sewing. Anyway here is the magazine

I’ll keep you updated on what I tackle first:)

Newborns are so cute

I recently went to see some friends who had just had a baby. Even though my boy is only 1 it seems so long ago already! Newborns are the cutest. This is what I took as a present.

These pants were made with fleece using Made By Rae’s Basic Newborn Pant. I thought they would be nice and warm for a winter newborn.

I also made a couple of bibs, even though they won’t come in handy for a while they will eventually. They are backed with Flannelette and have nylon in between for waterproofing.

And topped off with a Vintage card

More birthdays

Yet another first birthday present. Patchwork trousers, made from the Make It Perfect Snug as a Bug pajama pattern.

A top made using MADE’s 90 minute top tutorial. My first attempt was a complete failure, the pattern I originally made was bad, so with a re jig I made this and was very happy. I didn’t use her ribbing method, instead I folded the ribbing and sewed the edges right sides together then ironed it flat.

Thrifted/opshop cardigan. Apparently this pattern is really really old and was extremely popular 30 plus years ago. When I mentioned it to my Mother In Law she pulled out her pattern and said that my husband wore one when he was a baby. Cute!

And last but not least a vintage birthday card!

Happy birthday Lukey!

Gorgeous little skirt

There is a adorable skirt tutorial and pattern by Me Sew Crazy posted on The Girl Creative, It’s called Petal Tiered skirt and this is what it looks like.

Super cute right?! So I decided even though I don’t have a little girl to make one and I can give it to one of the one year old girls that I know!

Here is my attempt -
